Focus on the good focus on the good focus on the good

During the traffic reports and delays this was my view.

My tomato's turning red but rotting on the bottom ... I waited and waited... pppppphhbt .. what can I do ?

  1. The brown/black spot on the bottom of your tomato is blossom end rot. It is caused mostly by a deficiency of calcium in the soil. There is not much you can do at this point, maybe sprinkle/dig in some egg shells around your tomato plants. It can also be caused by irregular watering/rains (lots one week and none the next). I've usually found that the first few tomatoes that ripen from each plant have the rot, but then the rest of the tomatoes are fine.

    One way to try to prevent this is to add calcium to the transplant holes in the spring when you plant your tomatoes in the garden.

  2. blossom end rot can also be caused by lack of soil moisture. Try watering either at dusk or real early in the morning, every day. The plants are dry.

  3. OK OK .. working on it THANKS ! the black krum cherry tomatoes are great and it looks like the second round is starting to turn without rot .. thank goodness
